What They're Saying

Greyson Masters’ recent visit to our school was a wonderful experience for our students. He spent a full day energizing our kids to become the writers they were meant to be. Mr. Masters was a consummate professional from the first moment we contacted him. On the day of his visit, our first through fifth grade students assembled and were treated to an awesome hour-long presentation by Mr. Masters. He demonstrated and explained the fundamental steps of the writing process in a fun and engaging manner. He also conducted writer workshops with our second and third graders throughout the day where he was able to interact with our students more individually and personally. In addition, he visited our kindergarten classes for an intimate author’s story time in which he read his charming tale, The Worthless Penny. Together all of these activities provided the inspiration our students need to write their own stories. Comments such as “I can’t wait to finish my story” or “I hope Mr. Masters can come back to hear our stories” were heard throughout the day. Mr. Masters is a top-notch professional with a collection of delightful stories, and his visit to our school was just what we hoped it to be and much, much more!

On Friday, March 1, 2019, Greyson Masters visited Charlesmont Elementary. I cannot say enough good things about his visit! He was extremely flexible and crunched the entire day he had planned into a shortened day thanks to a 2 hour snow delay. He also rearranged the entire schedule so that we could get to everything that we had planned. He started off his visit by conducting writing workshops with our second and third grade classes (some classes were separate where others were combined). The students literally hung on his every word and seemed to really enjoy the writing process because of him. In one class, the students were not able to finish their organizers due to time, so they asked if they could take them to lunch and finish them!

We had to do a combined assembly as a result of the delay (we had originally planned to do a primary assembly and an intermediate assembly). Usually, combined assemblies are a complete nightmare because there are too many students and the age gaps create an issue. The students tend to lose focus and become chatty. Not at this assembly though! The students were engaged, participated, laughed, cheered, etc. They could not get enough of Greyson Masters! We even had a student get sick in the middle of the assembly and the students didn't notice because they were so focused on Greyson and what he was presenting. After the assembly, the one student asked when he would come back. Another student was so inspired by him that she went home and wrote her own book!

The teacher feedback was also very positive. They said things like, "He was amazing!" "He was so energetic and engaging!" "The kids LOVED him."

I also want to note how easy it was to work with Greyson. He always got right back to me when I sent him an email. He was really good about answering all of my questions and keeping in contact with me. (I set up his visit back in October.) With some scheduled assemblies, you talk to the company/person once and just cross your fingers and hope that they show up on the scheduled day. This was not the case with Greyson Masters. I knew with certainty that he would arrive on his scheduled day.

I would HIGHLY recommend Greyson Masters for an author's visit at ANY school. I will definitely be sharing his name with the schools in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Greyson Masters' author/illustrator presentation was magnificent! He had a great mix of humor and helpful information for our students and teachers. The best part of it all was that students left wanting to write and illustrate a book! Thanks to Mr. Masters for inspiring my students!

This morning when his mom dropped him at the car rider loop, Liam (second grader) showed me a book he wrote with pages stapled together and illustrated! He told me he is going to read it to his 'whole class' today. His mother was beaming! Thanks for the impact you've had on my students!

Thank you so much for visiting Emerick. At the PTO meeting last night, I was sharing with the parents about your visit and one of the parents shared how their child came home and got right to work writing a book. The child shared how they were going to sell the books to make some money for Christmas. I am sure that after your visits you don’t get to see the impact you have on children, but this is one good example of the power you have in making our children know they can do anything they want in life. Thank you for your visit.

What made Mr. Greyson Masters’ presentation so amazing was that he taught our students how to create and publish their own book on Amazon! Many students enjoy writing, but often only do it because they are asked to do it by their teachers. After Greyson showed our students how to create, illustrate, and share their writing with the world - and then explained that they had the potential of actually selling it on Amazon - the kids were extremely motivated! The icing on the cake was that he located a childhood photo of me from elementary school to share with the children (we actually went to grade school together). Any opportunity for us to empower our students to use the tools at their disposal to create and share their work and ideas is a win and something we need to do every day. Mr. Greyson Masters did just that! We look forward to having him back again in the future!

If you're looking for high energy and learning all in one, Greyson Masters is the author and illustrator you want at your school. From the moment the students entered the assembly the students were highly involved and engaged. He worked in three Writer's Workshops guiding the students through the writing process. The students left for home motivated and eager to create their own book for him to sign. In addition, Greyson was so gracious signing his autograph for all who wanted one. Thanks for a fun filled day of learning and entertainment!
